New CNAC Website Launched

Unique Continuing Education Opportunity for CAEs and CREs on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)

Outdoor air pollution plays a significant role in affecting the health of all Canadians. Exposure to outdoor air pollution has been associated with many adverse health outcomes, including impaired lung function, exacerbation of asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease and impacts on the cardiovascular system that may lead to hospitalization and premature death. Ambient air quality affects not only individuals with heart and breathing problems but also pregnant women, the very young and the elderly.

In September 2009, the UBC School of Environmental Health launched an on-demand, online course on outdoor air quality and health and the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI). This course is available at no cost, made possible through funding by Health Canada. Time commitment to individual learners is expected to be three to four hours plus time in an asynchronous discussion forum to discuss case studies and other course content with other learners and a subject matter expert. [NB This course will soon be available in French.]

CAEs and CREs may use these course hours as professional development hours for recertification.

The Asthma Society of Canada is excited to introduce you to a new, interactive learning module for the public called Taking Control of Your Asthma. It was developed in partnership with the Division of e-Learning Innovation, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, McMaster University, and recently posted on the Asthma Society of Canada website for World Asthma Day in May. The McMaster development team followed a rigorous formative evaluation process to ensure the key learning needs of the public were addressed.
